The 13th Feminist New Materialisms Conference is pleased to invite you to submit your paper proposals for the 2026 edition of the conference.
The interest of this conference revolves around the potential interferences (Geerts and Van der Tuin, 2012) between feminist new materialisms and literature with the intention to motivate, share and co-create conversations, perspectives and investigations that engage with these areas of knowledge through interdisciplinary research practices and expand such an understanding, using the perspective of affect theory (Angerer, 2014). This call for proposals argues that understanding the new materialisms and affect theory diffractively modifies what we understand by literature exploring different corporeal, material and social aspects, becoming an apparatus “yet-to-come” (Revelles-Benavente, 2021) for revisiting the past, rethinking our current experiences and reimagining the future in affective and imaginative ways. We want to highlight our intention of not framing literature as textualities enclosed in words (Kozak, 2006 15) and within a particular discipline, but as apparatuses and paths of inquiry other than literary studies as narrowly understood come to matter.

This conference invites scholars to think with and through different streams, though alternative proposals may be welcome:

  • - Language and the “real”; Words and worlds; the textual and material or “textual-material”: engagements with writing methodologies,
  • literary creative processes and how meaning becomes material
  • - Discursive-material spaces and modes of creation as opportunities for subversion: interferences of class and transnational approaches in
  • academic practices.
  • - Decolonial perspectives: non-western, global south and indigenous epistemologies in dialogue with the genealogies of new
  • materialisms
  • - Definitions of literature and New Materialisms in dialogue with other forms of creative expression e.g. audiovisual, music, etc. and how
  • literature comes to matter
  • - Overflows and affirmative mestizajes: speculative fictions, transmediality, etc.
  • - Ecologies of affects (Angerer, 2019).
  • - Redefining literature: the de-hierarchization of literary and theoretical canons.
  • - Re-thinking theory and academic literature (Palmer, 2025): the politics of genealogies.
  • - New materialist and literary political strategies against the neoliberalization of academia.
  • -Impact of text-machines in the materialization of and through literature (including distant-reading, generative AI, LLMs as writing devices, etc.)
